The Art School at Old Church is showcasing its annual Salon 561 exhibition of artwork created by members of the school’s faculty.  The exhibit will be on view from September 15 – October 18, 2014.  A free, public reception will be held on Wednesday, September 17, 2014, 5:30 – 7:00 PM.  The exhibition is wheelchair accessible.

Salon 561 is a unique opportunity for individuals to see what the professional artists in the Art School community do in their own studios. Each artist instructs hundreds of art students each year… but what do they make behind their own closed doors? This “salon” style show exhibits the recent works of professional artist faculty and reveals the similarities and creative differences of their work. The resulting show reveals the many paths of making art among a group of artists who share a calling to create and to teach.

A wide range of contemporary and traditional arts will be exhibited, with examples of oil and acrylic painting, functional and decorative ceramics, sculpture, jewelry, printmaking, watercolor, flame-worked glass, drawing and Chinese brush painting. The Mikhail Zakin Gallery will be brimming with excellent examples of a variety of artistic techniques.

Over the past 40 years, the Art School has cultivated a strong reputation for having a faculty that includes many artists recognized as experts in their fields.  Their various accomplishments include: lengthy exhibitions histories, awards, publications and other achievements.  Many of the courses are directly influenced by new directions and experimentation that faculty members are pursuing in their own practices.

Visitors to Salon 561 will get a broad perspective on both the artist’s individual styles and also their contributions to the courses at the Art School.  Many of the exhibiting faculty members will be present at the reception to discuss the work on display as well as their classes and teaching methods.

Join us in the gallery on Wednesday, September 17, 2014, 5:30 – 7:00 PM to celebrate the wonderful teaching artists that make the Art School shine!
